Dixie Owen

President

Dixie Jean (Buehner) Owen was born on February 18, 1942 in a farmhouse in the country outside of Camden, Ohio. My family moved from my birthplace around the corner and down the road one year later where I grew up.

I graduated from Shawnee High School in Camden in May, 1960, married, and raised five children.  I started working for Sears Downtown Dayton, Ohio in 1974 for five years and then divorced, moved to Xenia, Ohio and worked for Montgomery Ward until the store was closed in 1985.At the request of my father I moved backed home in 1983 and loved living on the farm once again while my parents spent six months in Florida.started working for Preble County Children Services on October 31, 1983; having retired after 26 years on December 1, 2009 to take care of my mother and my husband. I actually replaced my mother at Children Services so she could retire. My mother passed away in April, 2010

I became reacquainted with my husband, Roger Owen, in 1986. We attended school all 12 years, having graduated together in Camden. We were both divorced and then married in April, 1991. He retired from the Eaton Police Department in July, 1994 after serving 26 years on the Department. He then worked other jobs while retired.

It was my father and mother, Roy and Ruth Buehner, who got me interested in the Rebekahs and Odd Fellows. My mother was President of the Ohio Rebekah Assembly in 1981-1982 and I followed in her footsteps having become President in 1999-2000. Then I became Assembly President again in 2023-2024. My mother and I are the only mother-daughter who have served as President of the Ohio Rebekah Assembly. It was an honor to serve with her as my mentor, advisor, and best of all, my Friend.

I joined Rachel Rebekah Lodge on October 9, 1984; then Rachel consolidated with Somers Rebekah Lodge #125; and then I transferred my membership to Valley Rebekah Lodge #145 where I had been an Associate Member.

My father was my escort when I became Warden in 1997, later passing away in September of the same year. He would give me lots of advice while traveling to annual sessions with him.

Roger would travel with me and my mother to our sessions; however, he could not attend because he was not a member.  He became a member when my mother placed an application in front of him and said “sign this”. He wouldn’t do it for me.  He then said he liked it so well he wanted to join the Odd Fellows so I joined with him on December 10, 2005. We became members of Friendship Lodge #21, I.O.O.F. in Germantown, Ohio. When he passed away on December 27, 2011 not only did he receive the Odd Fellows Memorial Services he received the Mason Memorial Services.

I am currently a member of Valley Rebekah Lodge #145, Friendship Lodge #21, I.O.O.F., where I serve as Secretary of both lodges; a member of Germantown Encampment #74 serving as Chief Patriarch, and being an Associate Member of Miami Lodge #89, I.O.O.F. in Monroe, Ohio after the consolidation of Eden Lodge #147, Gratis, Ohio in April, 2023.

I am a third generation Rebekah and second generation Odd Fellow. I love this Order and will assist and help any member who needs advice or help.

I am a member of the First Brethren Church in Gratis, Ohio.

I became a member of Rached Rebekah Lodge $144 in Eaton, Ohio on October 9, 1984. I became a Past Noble Grand on January 24, 1989.

I was nominated and elected Warden of the Ohio Rebekah Assembly in 1997, Vice President in 1998, and t hen serving as President in 1999-2000.

I never realized that I would be serving as a Assembly Executive once again 24 years later. It is as honor and privilege to serve our Order.

I am a third generation Rebekah which I am proud of and second generation Odd Fellow.

I currently belong to Valley Rebekah Lodge #145 in Germantown, Ohio serving a Secretary. I am a member of Friendship Lodge #21, Germantown, Ohio serving as Secretary. I belong t o Germantown Encampment #74, Germantown, OH and an Associate Member of Odd Fellows Miami Lodge #89 in Monroe, Ohio.
